Regional Rail Fails Under Andrews Government – Again

The abysmal performance the regional train network has continued for another month with new data showing just 73.6% of services on the Gippsland line met punctuality targets.

Member for Narracan has said feedback from Gippsland commuters painted a bleak picture of the service.

‘Every week I have emails, calls and complaints from commuters about their experience on the Gippsland V/Line service,’ Mr Blackwood said.

‘The most common complaint is punctuality and reliability.

‘People are now telling me they do not trust the service and don’t feel like they can rely on it to get them to specialist appoints in Melbourne or to and from major events in the CBD.

‘Many are instead voting with their feet and choosing to drive creating unnecessary congestion on our road network.

Mr Blackwood said the lack of care from the Andrews Labor Government and, in particular, Minister for Public Transport, Melissa Horne, only added to commuter anger.

‘Again and again Victorian Liberal and Nationals MP’s have asked the Minister what is being done to fix the network and all we receive are false promises that it will get better over time.

‘Nobody believes the Minister any more when she says the service will simply improve, particularly those who rely on it every single day.

‘With $149 million ripped from V/Line’s budget, it is no wonder the service has gone backwards under Labor.

‘Maybe if the Minister got out of her office and on a V/Line service here in Gippsland to see just how bad it was she would admit there is an issue and outline what can be done to fix the service,’ Mr Blackwood said.
