Member for Narracan Gary Blackwood is calling on the Andrews Labor Government to focus State Government advertising campaigns on Coronavirus information as quickly as possible.
Mr Blackwood said there was a never-ending chorus of adverts on local radio and television relating to State Government spending on infrastructure programs but nothing about public health awareness for the prevention of Coronavirus spread.
‘Local residents have told me they are relying on news reports and press conferences from the State Government relating to Coronavirus for information,’ Mr Blackwood said.
‘At the same time we seem to have every second advert on TV and radio being Victoria’s Big Build spruiking investment in infrastructure.
‘Many other countries including China, South Korea, the UK, France, Canada and more are running large scale public health campaigns raising awareness on practical measures citizens can use to minimise the impact of the disease.
‘The Andrews Labor Government must review expenditure on State Government advertising and immediately move to develop a public advice campaign to support communities who just want clear and concise information on the disease.
‘We must ensure the community have as many avenues of accurate, concise and factual information available to them as possible to stop the spread of misinformation and rumour,’ said Mr Blackwood.
