The 2020/21 Victorian State Budget has missed the opportunity to deliver critical community safety infrastructure across Narracan.
Speaking from State Parliament, Member for Narracan, Gary Blackwood said the failure to deliver funding to modernise and rebuild the Drouin Police Station meant 24 hour police services would not be delivered for the town.
‘This is a critical investment in the Drouin community and still Daniel Andrews and Tim Pallas have refused to deliver what was needed to support local residents,’ Mr Blackwood said.
‘Officers continue to work in cramped conditions, doing the best for the community with the resources this Government has provided them.
‘More needs to be done by the Andrews Labor Government to support their efforts and protect our community.
‘From this State Budget it is clear the Andrews Labor Governments’ priorities are with the metropolitan region and borrowing billions to cover massive cost blowouts in major projects, failing to support local regional communities and the projects they desperately need,’ said Mr Blackwood.
Shadow Minister for Police and Community Safety, David Southwick, said the Andrews Government had let all Victorians down with their failure to invest in police resources right across the State.
‘With violent offending up and community confidence in our police at decade lows – Victorians deserve better than this budget delivers,’ Mr Southwick said.
‘Daniel Andrews has dropped on the ball on community safety and must prioritise positive policies such as police in schools to stop offending before it occurs.
‘As Victorians move out of lockdown, we need a clear plan to get police back on the streets and PSOs back onto stations to keep local communities safe,’ said Mr Southwick.
