The Andrews Labor Government have forced through their destructive CFA bill.
Liberal Member for Narracan Gary Blackwood has said the bill designed to break up the CFA is the most recent in a long line of decisions made by the Andrews Labor Government to support union mates over volunteers.
‘This bill is designed to do everything it can to sideline CFA members and isolate them from decision making in their own organisation,’ Mr Blackwood said.
‘CFA volunteers have been very clear about their opposition to this bill and Daniel Andrews has bided his time, waited out the Federal Election and now rammed through this legislation against the will of the community.
‘Volunteers have not been given the respect they deserve from this Government and in a final insult the CFA bill was tied to a bill granting presumptive rights to career firefighters. Volunteers will need to prove they have fought enough fires and that number has yet to be defined.
‘This is another disgraceful decision by a Labor Government that has no respect for volunteers,’ Mr Blackwood said.
The bill was voted against by the Victorian Liberal National Coalition and supported in the Legislative Council by Labor, Green, Animal Justice Party, Fiona Patten and Catherine Cummings.
