Drouin Police Station – Click to download the petition
Local residents are being asked to give their support to a petition calling for a new Drouin Police Station to be funded by the Andrews Government in the upcoming May State Budget.
Member for Narracan Gary Blackwood launched the petition this week with Shadow Minister for Police & Community Safety Edward O’Donohue.
Mr Blackwood said the upcoming State Budget needed to shift focus to regional electorates and providing funding for upgraded and new regional police facilities which had been forgotten under Daniel Andrews.
‘Daniel Andrews in three years has focused his attention on Melbourne and the metropolitan region when it has come to almost every type of funding, including funding for Police infrastructure,’ Mr Blackwood said.
‘Regional electorates such as Narracan have been forgotten by the Andrews Labor Government and as a result we have seen regional crime rates blow out on Daniel Andrews watch.
‘This petition which calls for funding to deliver a new or upgraded Drouin Police Station, either on this site or another, is the first step towards delivering local Police better resources so they can continue to protect our local communities and I encourage all local residents to sign it to show their support,’ said Mr Blackwood.
Shadow Minister for Police & Community Safety, Edward O’Donohue said crime was up significantly under Daniel Andrews.
‘Since Daniel Andrews was elected home invasions in Victoria are up 54.5%, robbery up 32.4% and motor vehicle theft up 20.5%.
‘A new or upgraded station would give Drouin Police the resources they need to reduce crime and make the local community safer.
‘It is critical we put the infrastructure in place that Victoria Police need," said Mr O’Donohue.
