The Victorian Liberal-Nationals have today announced that a Victorian Coalition Government will provide $7 million over four years for free voluntary flu vaccinations for all Victorian Children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years.
Member for Narracan Gary Blackwood said providing free voluntary vaccinations will help remove the financial barrier for parents and encourage them to be proactive about obtaining the vaccine each year.
‘Many parents do not have their children vaccinated against the flu and we hope by removing the financial barrier, it will encourage more to take up the vaccine and help drive down the rate of flu in young Victorians,’ Mr Blackwood said.
‘Funding the vaccine is a strong incentive and a clear message to parents that the vaccine is safe and that we believe the wellbeing of their children is paramount.
‘This year has been particularly bad when it comes to the flu and we need to make sure proactive programs such as this are put in place to assist young families who have been forgotten by the Andrews Labor Government.
‘Under the leadership of Matthew Guy, a Victorian Coalition Government will work to support families and this announcement today is a great example of the small changes we can make to improve their lives’, said Mr Blackwood.
