Member for Narracan Gary Blackwood has today thanked the Federal Transport Minister Hon. Darren Chester MP and Federal Member for McMillan Russell Broadbent MP for their commitment to Victorian regional rail with the announcement of $500 million for upgrades in last nights Federal Budget.
‘This investment by the Federal Minister for Transport means projects like the duplication of track between Bunyip and Longwarry can now be considered for funding,’ said Mr Blackwood.
‘In 2014 the Victorian Coalition committed to duplication of this section of the Gippsland Line and it is very pleasing to see the Federal Coalition Government committing funds to assist regional rail projects.
‘Last nights Federal Coalition Budget was in stark contrast to the recent Andrews Labor State Budget that did not deliver one cent of State Government funding to the Gippsland network for critical line upgrades.
‘It is clear that only the Liberal-National Coalition understands our regional transport links and are committed to delivering the funding they need to improve frequency and reliability for regional commuters,’ Mr Blackwood said.
