The Liberal Nationals support a new West Gippsland Hospital on the greenfields site at the corner of Princes Way and Lardners Track.
We are committed to building a new hospital that will deliver the best healthcare for the local community that has the capacity to expand as the region grows.
Every Victorian deserves access to quality healthcare and building this new hospital will ensure that people in the region continue to get quality health care close to home. This project is not just about today, it’s about the future.
Daniel Andrews and Labor must now commit to building this new hospital. Failing to do so means that they don’t think the people of the region deserve the same healthcare as those in the city.
If Daniel Andrews fails to take action, then a Liberal Nationals Government will commence detailed planning for construction – including detailed work on the timing of construction.
Victoria is growing at around 120,000 people every year and that’s why we have established a Population Taskforce to tackle the pressing issue of rapid population growth head-on, embarking on a long-term strategy for Victoria’s future.
Making sure that we have a plan for health, education and emergency services is a vital part of our population policy. Rebuilding the West Gippsland Hospital is about planning for our future health needs.
Quotes attributed to Member for Narracan Gary Blackwood MLA:
“As a Life Governor of the West Gippsland Hospital who served nine years as a Board member and having had three generations of the Blackwood family born at the hospital, I am incredibly passionate about making sure it provides great service to the community.
Our community is justifiably proud of the West Gippsland Hospital and this has been demonstrated time and time again through bequests and donations, in particular the contribution of the Drouin Auxiliary that raises around $100,000 each year.
It is very pleasing that after almost ten years of lobbying and advocacy a new hospital will now be built on the greenfield site and congratulations must go to the Board of management for their foresight by purchasing land in a perfect location between Warragul and Drouin.
Matthew Guy and his team have understood the current needs of West Gippsland and have recognised the future demand the West Gippsland Hospital will face with enormous population growth and an aging population which is a very clear demonstration of their genuine commitment to Country Victoria.”
Attributed to Leader of the Opposition Hon. Matthew Guy MLA:
“Gary has been a passionate advocate for his community in championing this upgrade of the local hospital. He listens to his community, researches and understands the issues and then mounts a compelling argument for support."
Attributed to Shadow Minister for Health Mary Wooldridge MLC:
“Daniel Andrews is no friend of the Gippsland region. He has forced the shutdown of Hazelwood resulting in thousands of lost jobs and he’s failed to fund important local services. When it comes to funding health and education, this divisive Premier always plays favourites.”
