Member for Narracan, Gary Blackwood, has today called on the Andrews Labor Government to support the Latrobe Valley with a real plan to deliver investment and jobs with only 50 days remaining until Hazelwood closes.
‘Today marks 50 days until the closure of Hazelwood and increasingly the commentary I hear from local communities is that Labor has forgotten about the Valley and left it to fend for itself,’ Mr Blackwood said.
‘This week Labor had the audacity to use time in Parliament to brag about pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into Alcoa and the Geelong region to support jobs following the closure of the car industry.
‘Local communities should rightly question why Labor is willing to prop up one industry in the west of the state with investment to repair and upgrade its infrastructure but not Hazelwood in the Valley.
‘Labor Ministers should come clean with the region, detail what their plan is to support the Valley moving forward, if it does indeed have one, and stop hiding behind the Latrobe Valley Authority which has done little to calm the concerns of workers who will be impacted by the closure,’ said Mr Blackwood.
