$1.8billion was promised this week for Western Melbourne roads while residents in West Gippsland continue to see roads deteriorate with no new funding commitments from the city centric Andrews Labor Government.
Member for Narracan Gary Blackwood this week said he continually received feedback through his office about deteriorating road conditions across the Gippsland region.
‘The most common complaint I hear travelling around my electorate of Narracan is the state of our roads and the lack of funding that is flowing to assist with the issue,’ Mr Blackwood said.
‘We have seen the Andrews Labor Government slash funding to our regional road networks with cuts to the Road Asset Management Budget and Road operation and Network Improvement Budget. $307 million has been taken from these programs in two years and those cuts are now impacting regional roads.
‘Additionally the very successful Liberal/National Country Roads and Bridges Program which delivered $160 million in funding was discontinued by the Andrews Government,’ said Mr Blackwood.
Mr Blackwood said he was asking local residents to report the worst local roads to his office or by visiting www.fixgippslandroads.com to register a road.
