Gippsland Members of Parliament have criticised Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan for failing to answer serious questions regarding the Gippsland Line and the reporting of V/Line statistics for commuters.
In a Question on Notice, to the Minister for Public Transport, Member for Narracan Gary Blackwood asked 7 questions relating to reporting of statistics on the Gippsland Line and after more than 6 weeks to reply the Minister responded with a single sentence referring Mr Blackwood to the V/Line website.
‘This response to a very detailed Question on Notice demonstrates the distain the Andrews Government has for providing commuters with real information about their public transport services,’ Mr Blackwood said.
‘Minister Allan’s response shows she either doesn’t know the answers to these questions raised or she doesn’t care enough to provide a detailed response. Neither reason is acceptable.
‘The Minister should be embarrassed that this is her response and it proves commuters are right to think this Minister is not serious about her role in helping develop better services for the Gippsland region.
‘A number of groups, including the Gippsland V/Line users group, as well as individual commuters have raised questions about the reporting of V/Line statistics and this response is a slap in the face to their genuine concerns.
Member for Morwell Russell Northe said long suffering Gippsland commuters were sick of hearing from the Andrews Government about plans, potential investment and future growth as services continued to fall behind other regional lines.
‘Gippsland commuters were promised solutions from the Regional Network Development Plan and after waiting more than 12 months were bitterly disappointed to find it was a summary of comment received by the Andrews Government providing no real planning about future investment,’ said Mr Northe.
‘After 2 years the Andrews Government has delivered the bare minimum investment for the Gippsland Line and regional commuters.
‘Not a single new carriage has been committed to the region of the 27 that are on order and increasingly it appears that rolling stock will be provided to the Western Regional lines to improve Labor held seats.
‘Gippsland commuters deserve their fair share of investment and it appears under Daniel Andrews and Jacinta Allan the Gippsland Line is on its own.’
