A re-elected Napthine Government will spend $1 million to construct accommodation for visiting health professionals at West Gippsland Healthcare Group, Member for Narracan, Gary Blackwood, announced today.
Mr Blackwood said the funding will attract and retain highly skilled health professionals at West Gippsland Healthcare Group.
“The new accommodation will replace ageing cottages and will be important in attracting high-calibre health workers,” Mr Blackwood said.
“An inviting home away from home, immersion in the local community and a satisfying clinical experience will retain healthcare professionals after their rotation.
Minister for Health, David Davis, said new funding at West Gippsland Healthcare Group builds on the Coalition Government’s $3.7 million expansion of the emergency department opened last year.
“Attracting and retaining a professional health workforce at West Gippsland Healthcare Group will better cater for the health service needs in the region, now and for years to come,” Mr Davis said.
Mr Blackwood said new West Gippsland Healthcare Group accommodation will play a vital role in developing a sustainable health workforce in West Gippsland.
“This announcement builds on our pre-election commitment to deliver $2.5m for an expansion of the maternity unit and operating theatre at the West Gippsland Hospital,” said Mr Blackwood.
