A re-elected Napthine Coalition Government will further expand ambulance resources at Warragul, Member for Narracan Gary Blackwood announced today.
“A new Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance Single Responder Unit will be based at the existing Warragul branch and will provide additional coverage to the local community and the surrounding district,” Mr Blackwood said.
“The new MICA SRU will provide specialist trained paramedics who will support and work alongside the highly trained Advanced Life Support Paramedics in our community.”
“We have seen an increase in the survival of cardiac arrest patients in regional communities and the attendance of MICA paramedics, who now carry blood clot-dissolving drugs, has contributed to that improvement in Victoria,” Mr Blackwood said.
Funding will be provided for the MICA through the Coalition Government’s commitment of a further significant expansion to ambulance services across Victoria.
Minister for Health David Davis said that over the last four years, the Coalition Government has expanded ambulance resources considerably across the Gippsland region.
This includes the addition of more than 100 paramedics, the provision of new MICA single responder units at Bairnsdale, Sale and Wonthaggi, upgrading the Maffra, Grantville and Cowes branches to 24-hour services, introducing non-emergency patient transport crews to Morwell and Wonthaggi, and establishing a multi-officer branch at Korumburra.
“These investments further strengthen the Napthine Coalition Government’s track record of major improvements to Victoria’s ambulance services which has already seen the provision of record funding,” Mr Davis said.
In its first term, the Coalition Government has increased the number of paramedics on the road by 679 across the state. The ambulance budget has also been increased by 23 per cent since the Coalition came to office, to $696.5 million in 2014-15.
“Victorian paramedics will also be the first in the country to be registered under a new professional accreditation scheme proposed by the Coalition Government,” Mr Davis said.
