The Liberal Nationals will build a new West Gippsland Hospital on the Greenfields site at the corner of Princes Way and Lardners Track.
Opposition Leader, Matthew Guy visited the site today with Member for Narracan, Gary Blackwood where a Liberal Nationals Government would build the West Gippsland Hospital.
Every Victorian deserves access to quality healthcare and building this new hospital will ensure that people in the region continue to get quality healthcare close to home.
This project is not just about today, it’s about the future.
Daniel Andrews’ failure to take action and build this new hospital has left regional Victorians disadvantaged and without the same healthcare as those in the city.
Only a Liberal Nationals Government will build the new hospital and commence with detailed planning for construction – including detailed work on the timing and cost.
We will also work with the Federal Government to ensure their funding and support for the Hospital.
Victoria is growing at around 150,000 people every year and that’s why we have established a Population Taskforce to tackle the pressing issue of rapid population growth head-on, embarking on a long-term strategy for Victoria’s future.
Making sure that we have a plan for health, education and emergency services is a vital part of our population policy. Building the West Gippsland Hospital is about planning for regional Victoria’s future health needs.
Quotes attributable to Leader of the Opposition, Matthew Guy:
“While Daniel Andrews is the Premier for Melbourne, I will be Premier for all Victoria.”
“Gary Blackwood has been a passionate advocate for his community in championing this upgrade of the local hospital.
“Victorians deserve the best quality healthcare and that’s why I’ll make sure works on West Gippsland Hospital are underway in the first term of a Liberal Nationals Government.
Quotes attributable to Member for Narracan, Gary Blackwood:
“As a Life Governor of the West Gippsland Hospital who served nine years as a Board member and having had three generations of the Blackwood family born at the hospital, I am incredibly passionate about making sure it provides great service to the community.
“Our community is justifiably proud of the West Gippsland Hospital and this has been demonstrated time and time again through bequests and donations, in particular the contribution of the Drouin Auxilliary that raises around $100,000 each year.
“It is very pleasing that after almost ten years of lobbying and advocacy a new hospital will now be built on the Greenfield site and congratulations must go to the Board of management for their foresight by purchasing land in a perfect location between Warragul and Drouin.
“Matthew Guy and his team have understood the current needs of West Gippsland and have recognised the future demand the West Gippsland Hospital will face with enormous population growth and an aging population which is a very clear demonstration of their genuine commitment to Country Victoria.”
Quotes attributable to Shadow Minister for Health, Mary Wooldridge:
“Daniel Andrews is no friend of the Gippsland region.
“As Premier, Daniel Andrews has forced the shutdown of Hazelwood resulting in thousands of lost jobs and he’s failed to fund important local services.
“When it comes to funding health and education, this divisive Premier always plays favourites.”
